International participation
GGWAS are proud of our members that have represented New Zealand Archery either as Archers on the shooting field, Coaching staff helping them achieve their best, or as part of the Officials making sure that all runs smoothly and in accordance with the rules of our sport.
National tournaments (Outdoor and Indoor) and national recognition
GGWAS archers shoot at all levels, and the panicle for most is to compete in and get a foot on the podium at a National event. This could be either the National Indoors (normally shot in August) or the Outdoor championships that are shot in Early January, but sometimes due to other international events is pushed out to Easter at the end of the outdoor season.

District (SIDAA) tournaments (Outdoor, Indoor and Junior)
As the GGWAS are in Christchurch we are members of the South Island District Archery Association more commonly referred to as SIDAA. In fact from 2020 our club fees increased so that as a club all our members are automatically members of SIDAA and can shoot in any tournament organized under this banner.
SIDAA currently have 3 main competitions each year, a Outdoor championship which is help alternatively in the north and south of the district around Easter (subject to other Events such as the Archery New Zealand Nationals) and an Indoor championship held in August/September. The other competition is a Summer Postal round that is shoot at our home field.
In the past a Field championship was also held, but due to the lack of suitable field courses available in the south Island this round was dropped, but hopefully will be back on the calendar sometime soon.

Society / Club tournaments (Winter and Summer)
The society runs 2 main tournaments each year along with competitions run at either district or other levels, so you get 2 bites out of every shoot. The big difference is that we run these as handicapped competitions normally over 5 months in which the archers must shoot at least 3 months in to get a chance at winning the Society trophy's.
As these are handicapped tournaments you are only really shooting against your own round from the previous month and to win you have to show improvement month on month. This means that it is very rare that the top archers can win as it's harder to find the extra points each month, so it's the improving club archer and beginners that stand the best change of getting their name on one of these trophies and getting their name on the roll of Honour.
